Zoetrope Fanzine

Art directing and designing Zoetrope was my first real opportunity to be myself as a graphic designer.  This was an after hours project.  Our compensation was freedom of expression.  Any dollars raised through advertising went to pay the printer.  I art directed and designed six issues between 1979 and 1980.

Zoetrope started as a fanzine energized by former animation students at the Institute of Design, IIT, Chicago.  And quickly turned into an anything goes statement on contemporary culture and our mood at the time.

Issues below are March 1979, cover art: David Garland | November 1979, cover art: Lou Beach | Spring 1980, cover art: Gary Panter | Summer 1980, cover art: April Greiman

Zoetrope won many national awards for visual design.  – c –
